Tandartspraktijk Kleinjan is more than a dental practice. It's a family story spanning two generations, built on warmth, creativity and the belief that people always come first.
From living room to Mathenesserlaan
The origins
The practice was originally founded on Mathenesserlaan by the Henrys, both dentists. Mrs Henry mainly practised orthodontics. Later, the practice expanded to include the dentists Menalda van Schouwenburg, Verbeek and Diederik. Its dental lab work was of a very high standard: it was one of Rotterdam's so-called "gold practices". It was also the first practice to employ dental hygienists from the United States. Hans continued Menalda's practice at Heemraadsingel 34, and later at number 97.
The beginning
Hans Kleinjan starts his dental practice from his own living room. The sofa is the waiting room; the future nursery is the treatment room.
Mathenesserlaan
Hans takes over Menalda van Schouwenburg's practice on Mathenesserlaan, a practice whose history goes back another two generations of dentists.
Born into it
During the transition period, baby Laura sleeps in the back room of the practice. She quite literally grows up with dentistry.
Art and dentistry
Hans takes up painting. He paints his dental chairs, creates 'little clouds' above patients' heads and exhibits his work. His creativity sharpens his ingenuity as a dentist.
The next generation
Laura and Iris Kleinjan carry on their father's practice and philosophy. The team proudly walks around in Mascolori shoes signed by Hans.

Laura is a versatile dentist with a special fondness for aesthetics and comprehensive treatment plans. She's creative, a perfectionist and a real people person. Adult or child, everyone feels at ease with her in no time. She has taken over the reins from her father and carries on Hans's philosophy: people come first!
Iris Kleinjan
Assistant & trainee dental technician
Iris is the youngest of the Kleinjan family, yet she plays a big role at the practice. She manages, organises, structures and brings people together. She's also training to be a dental technician, and in her spare time she's a pastry chef too!
